The paint had to come off, and these photos show what was at the bottom of it all. I happened to have a Mk2 bonnet, (“hood” for the yanks) without the scoop, so I fitted that to the car. I prefer the looks of car without the hood scoop, but I think that the originality of the Mk3 hood scoop has value too. I will use both. On the track, I will be able to see whether the hood scoop has any functional value at all; I think there is a possibility that it might work to help the carburetor(s) to get cooler air, but that is debatable. I think the only value is it’s originality to the Mk3.
